How Each Session Works
Every session we split into two groups based on the current skill level of each player.
There is no wrong starting point and no pressure
to move faster than what each player
is easily able to do.

Beginners
New players, curious visitors, and anyone who has never sat across a chess board.
This group is for you if you:
-
Have never played chess before
-
Don't know how the pieces move
-
Have watched others play but never tried it yourself
-
Are simply curious about the game
-
Were invited and said yes — welcome!
Players Who Want to Improve
You know how the pieces move, now learn to use them — tactics, strategy, and everything in between.
This group is for you if you:
-
Know how all the pieces move
-
Can play a full game from start to finish
-
Want to learn tactics, strategy, and planning
-
Are interested in openings, endgames, or puzzles
-
Want to become more competitive
Every Generation Has Something to Teach
Chess is one of the rare activities where age is an advantage — just a different kind depending on who you are.

Youth tend to excel at tactics
Pattern recognition, quick calculation, and spotting sharp winning moves come naturally to younger players.
Seniors tend to excel at strategy
Long-term planning, positional patience, and accumulated wisdom give experienced players a real edge.
Each generation learns from the other
When a 10 year-old and a 70 year-old sit across the board, both leave a better player — and a better person.
Chess as a Tool for Effective Study Skills
Chess is a skill, not just a game.
Every time you study an opening, analyze a mistake, or think several moves ahead, you are practicing skills that can help one become effective learners
in school, work, and life.

Applied Scholastics proudly sponsors the Lifelong Learning Chess Club to make those skills accessible to everyone — young students building academic confidence, adults refreshing their focus, and seniors keeping their minds sharp and engaged.
Everyone CAN learn, and they can learn anything they want to. Study Technology is the key to learning anything and ensuring full understanding and comprehension. Our chess club instructors utilize Study Technology to help players improve learning speed, comprehension, retention, and — most importantly — the ability to use (apply) what is learned. And it's fun!
